In 2007, ADES, in coordination with government agencies, started to establish contacts with schools and to sensitize teachers and school children to environmental issues and energy-efficient cooking. This resulted in an environmental education project for primary schools from 2011 onwards. With innovative teaching materials and teaching methods, the ADES school team informs 8- to 9-year-old pupils about the consequences of deforestation for soil, water, ecosystem and climate and inspires them to protect the unique flora and fauna of the island and to use natural resources in a sustainable way. ADES also offers courses for teachers to enable them to integrate environmental topics into their lessons.
